India J-Term 2018

April 10, 2017 General Comments Off on India J-Term 2018 Posted By: Gen Alexander

Accepting applications to India 2018!
On this trip, we’ll be exploring various important sites in India, and visiting a number of organizations that aim to improve the lives of different groups of Indians. One important focus of this trip will be to come alongside these organizations, learn what they do, and help out in any way we can. We will put on a VBS for one (perhaps two) orphanage(s).

Another important focus of the trip will be learning about India and the different philosophies and religions that animate the entire country. India is a place where its philosophical and religious past is evident and saturates the present. Students will learn about these things through reading and discussing. Students will also come to see that caring for different communities requires caring about their histories and culture.

All students who are interested in this mission trip must apply whether you have gone in the past or not. The deadline to turn in your application is Wed. April 19. You can turn in your application to Miller basement and slide it under the Alexander’s door before or on April 19, or you can simply email it to Gen Alexander. We will not accept applications after the 19th.

We will conduct interviews once we have reviewed all applications. Note: Not everyone will get an interview.

We expect the trip to cost $3000. The cost includes all travel, food, and lodging expenses as well as expenses related to our working with various agencies in India.

Please contact Gen Alexander at alexanderg@huntington.edu for an application.

Spring is here and it’s time to get things rolling at State Street Garden! We’ll put putting on live music, a silent art auction and a bake sale to raise funds for this year’s improvment projects.

The State Street Garden exists to teach area youth about the joy of gardening, the value of healthy lifestyle choices and the value of investing in one’s own community. The garden also exists as a place for neighbors to get to know one another, enjoy the outdoors and to work together to build a more beautiful neighborhood that we can all take pride in.

Cash and card will be accepted for entry, baked goods and art.
