BOWLING

The HU bowling teams spent the weekend at their second conference tourney, WHAC Jamboree #2, of the year where the women took 5th and the men finished 10th.

The Forester men struggled with consistency to finish with 4496 pins in their three regular and two Baker games. Daniel Burzynski paced Shockey’s crew with a score of 543 for a three-game average of 181 to land the 30th spot out of 94 bowlers. Austin Schultz claimed 39th with a score of 473.

“We played the shot well, but at the end of the day, we failed to make the quality of shots we needed to in order to avoid splits and missing easy spares,” said Coach Mike Shockey.

Saturday saw the Forester women collected 4524 pins behind Amber Elliott’s 6th place finish. The sophomore posted a score of 637 (212.3 three-game average) to just miss a spot on the all-tournament team by 12 pins. Kayli Iorio (542) and Paige New (536) finished 21st and 22nd respectively.

“We missed a ball change and a move with our feet and spent the rest of the playing catch up to the field,” said Shockey. “This combined with too many easy spare misses and we came away feeling like we let one get away from us.

“We definitely had a good enough look to be near the top of the standings but didn’t execute to the level we are capable.”

The Foresters are back in action on Saturday to compete in WHAC Jamboree #3.
