The Huntington softball team picked up a pair of dominate wins, 7-1, 10-0, over Goshen (12-17, 2-11) Friday afternoon to improve to 16-12 overall, 7-7 in league play.

The Maple Leafs played a little small ball in their first at-bat of the opener to take an early 1-0 advantage, but Meghan Fretz wasn’t having it after that. The senior hurler went the distance to hold her guests scoreless the rest of the way to log the win. When all was said and done, she gave up four hits, one run and two walks while striking out three.

The Foresters’ deficit didn’t last the inning. After Jada Crofoot’s RBI-single, Hannah Shoupe snuck home for a 2-1 HU lead heading into the second where the hosts touched home three more times highlighted by Abigail Reed’s run-scoring double. Four of Huntington’s seven runs were a direct result of nifty base-running by way of passed balls or stolen bases.

Crofoot finished with a hit and two RBI to lead HU at the plate.

Adelyn Harsh and Mallory West tag-teamed in the circle to blank Goshen in the nightcap. Harsh, in 3.2 innings of work, scattered just two hits for the win while West tossed the final 1.1 frames where she allowed just one base poke.

Offense was by committee with six different Foresters knocking in at least one run. Sophia Beachy led the way with a pair of hits and two RBI. Four of HU’s eight hits went for doubles. Huntington squeezed all ten of their runs into the first three frames but had to hold out until the fifth for the mercy-rule to take effect.

The Foresters hit the road today to face Marian at 1:00 p.m.
