The #RV Forester baseball team relied on a pair of spectacular performances on the mound to sweep Goshen, 11-1, 6-0, on opening day of their weekend series with the Maple Leafs.

First up was senior Camden Dice who pitched a complete-game dandy in game one to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0. He scattered seven hits, gave up one run and two walks while sitting down nine on strikes.

Not only did Dice shine on the mound, he was also a force at the plate where he pounded out a pair of hits, which included a run-scoring single. He logged a second RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Eli Knust also finished with two hits and two RBI in a game that saw the Foresters score in all but two frames. Satchell Wilson’s second hit of the day was a big one. He opened the bottom of the third by sending his first pitch over the left field wall for his second homer of the season.

Langston Ginder put the final touches on HU’s dominate performance with a two-run blast in the seventh for a walk-off ending compliments of the ten-run rule. As a team, Frame’s crew posted nine hits and drew seven walks while striking out just once.

Alex McCutcheon didn’t let Goshen get into any sort of offensive rhythm in the nightcap. The senior ace gave up just five hits for the complete-game shutout with only three Maple Leafs ever advancing beyond first base. He struck out ten of the 26 batters he faced without issuing any base on balls.

Huntington tapped into three of their six hits in the third to fuel a four-run inning. Dice and Kallen Kelsheimer kicked things off with back-to-back walks after which Knust knocked in Dice with a blooper into left. Ginder’s RBI-ground out plated another run after which Ian McCutcheon doubled in Ryan Hale, Knust’s pinch runner, before making his way home on a Maple Leaf error.

McCutcheon currently ranks 27th in the NAIA for doubles per game (.429).

The Foresters’ final two runs came in the sixth by way of an Owen Young RBI-single up the middle and a double-play ball with runners on the corners. HU’s six hits were at the bat of six different Foresters.

With today’s wins, the hosts are 22-8 overall, 15-7 in league play. They are back at Forest Glen on Monday for a second doubleheader with Goshen (3-28, 2-20). Opening pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
