The HU softball team suffered a pair of home losses to Saint Francis, 5-3, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon. With these losses, the Foresters drop to 21-17 overall, 10-10 in CL play, and are now tied with the Cougars (12-18, 10-10) in the league standings.

After both teams combined for just seven hits through the first six frames to make for a 1-1 deadlock, the final frame was packed full of offense. The Cougars pieced together four hits and took advantage of two HU errors to score four runs, only one of which was earned, to surge ahead 5-1.

Having the last say, the Foresters got off to a great start. Jada Crofoot opened with an infield single after which Kaela Robey belted one over the center field fence to close to within three. With runners on the corners, HU’s rally came up short as USF pitcher Mackenzie Rust worked the final out to preserve her team’s win.

Robey finished with a hit and two RBI while Paige Eichelberger added RBI-double in the fourth.

Meghan Fretz took the loss for Huntington having given up eight hits, five runs, three unearned, and a walk while striking out four.

After giving up a run in the top of the first in the nightcap, Gower’s crew answered with a pair of runs when Sophia Beachy’s drove in both with a shot down the left field line. Unfortunately, it was HU’s only offense of the afternoon while the Cougars were just getting heated up.

USF erupted for four runs in the second and added another in the third and fourth to run away with the contest.

Three Foresters spent time into the circle with the loss charged to starting pitcher Adelyn Harsh who surrendered six hits and five runs, four of which were earned. HU finished with five hits behind Eichelberger’s two.

Next up for the Foresters is a doubleheader at Taylor on Saturday.
