CROSS COUNTRY
HU sophomore Emma Wilson continues to pile up the awards as the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named her the Women’s National Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Wilson, who boasts a 3.91 GPA, won the individual title earlier this month at the 2020 NAIA Cross Country Championships by clocking in over 35 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
All seven of the HU harriers who competed at nationals earned All-Academic badges. To be selected for this distinction, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GAP of at least 3.25 and qualify for the national championship meet. Members of HU’s squad included Jessica Chojnacki, Ireland Dodson, Sydney Lambert, Saige Norris, Carmen Trier, Olivia Von Gunten and Wilson.
As a team, the HU women’s squad boasts a collective 3.78 GPA and for their efforts were tabbed an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA. The Forester men’s team also earned these praises for carrying a 3.35 GPA.
Four members of the men’s squad who competed at nationals were tabbed All-Academic Athletes. Adrien Gentie, Aaron Hendryx, Austin Liepe and Kent Yoder were four of 142 student-athletes who were recognized for their success in the classroom.
