SOFTBALL

The 7th-ranked Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan played spoiler to the HU softball team’s senior day by denying their hosts any runs in a pair of contests, 5-0, 12-0, Saturday afternoon.

IWU has made it a habit of blanking their opponents this season. They brought ten shutouts into today’s games. The Foresters were denied by a Wildcat pitching staff that allowed just three hits on the afternoon.

Breanna Hines and Meghan Fretz each picked up a hit in the opener while Paige Eichelberger found her way on base compliments of an infield single in game two.

Fretz was charged with HU’s first loss. The senior ace went the distance to surrender eight hits and five runs, four of which were earned, while fanning four Wildcat batters.

Four Foresters spent time in the circle in the nightcap with Mallory West getting the starting nod and taking the loss. In 1.2 innings of work, she gave up four hits, three runs and a walk while striking out one.

With six games remaining, Gower’s crew is sitting fifth in the league standings with a 13-15 CL record. HU’s overall record stands at 24-22. The Foresters are on the road at Goshen on Tuesday.
