MEN’S GOLF

The HU men’s  golf team wrapped up the year with an eighth place finish at the Crossroads League Championships earlier this week at Orchard Ridge Country Club.

Playing their first 36 holes on Monday, the Foresters fired a 655 (324-331) to nab the sixth spot in the standings after day one. Tuesday saw Sholund’s crew post a 331 for a 986 total which placed them eighth out of nine teams.

“While this was certainly not the result we would have liked, we can build on the experience,” said Coach Rick Sholund. “We made more birdies and converted more putts.  We played really well in stretches but when we had a bad hole, too often we followed it up with another.

“The Crossroads League is a very competitive league and in order for us to be more competitive we have to learn to limit mistakes and bounce back better.”

David  Beck turned in a 240 (82-81-77) to lead HU and finish 22nd out of 41 golfers. Mitchell Wilson was four strokes back at 244 (78-84-82) for 27th place. Carter Roseboom carded a 248 (83-81-84) to finish 31st. Chance Bressler rounded out Huntington’s scoring with a 254 (81-85-88) for the 39th spot.

Other scores for HU included Colby Martin playing  the first 36 holes (85-93) and Hunter Jones playing the last 18 (88).

“We are a young team and this experience will help them,” noted Sholund. “I know they are exiting the season with energy and excitement about the off-season and getting ready for next fall.

“These guys love the game and I know they will work to get better. It’s a really good group.”
