SOFTBALL

The Forester softball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of road losses, 9-1, 4-2, to Mount Vernon Saturday afternoon. With these losses, HU claims an overall record of 25-27 which includes a 14-20 CL record for the seventh seed heading into next week’s league tournament.

Offense did not come easy for Gower’s crew on this given day. HU’s only run in the opener came in the fifth on Breanna Hines’ RBI-ground out. It didn’t stop the mercy rule from cutting the contest two innings short as MVNU had piled up nine runs prior.

Meghan Fretz took the loss for HU. She tossed the first 3.1 innings and gave up nine hits and six runs, five of which were earned.

Darby Minor singled in a run in the first to give the guests an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap, but the Cougars were quick to erase the deficit by plating four runs in their half of the inning. While it proved MVNU’s only offense of the contest, it was enough for the hosts to hang on for the W as Sophia Beachy’s RBI-ground out in the third was the last of HU’s offense to make for the 4-2 final.

Adelyn Harsh was charged with the loss. She went the distance to give up ten hits, four runs and three walks while striking out one.

The Foresters are back in action on Wednesday for day one of the Crossroads League Tournament.
