The 3rd-seeded Forester baseball team continued their deep dive into the Crossroads League Tournament, this time picking off 2nd-seeded Taylor 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

Senior Alex McCutcheon was masterful on the mound to earn the complete-game win, his seventh W of the year. The southpaw scattered five hits through nine innings with his only hiccup coming in the seventh, a solo homerun, which proved Taylor’s only offense of the afternoon.

Like Mason Shinabery in yesterday’s 6-3 win over Marian, McCutcheon never gave up a walk. He sat down five Trojans (36-20) on strikes and worked six three-up, three-down innings. Aside from Jonathon Foster’s homer, the Huntington native never let TU get into any sort of groove offensively as evidenced by only two Trojans ever venturing beyond first base.

Offense was also at a premium for the Foresters who scored on McCutcheon’s RBI-single in the second for the early 1-0 lead. The game-winner came in the top of the eighth when Ian McCutcheon knocked in Grant Dexter, pinch running for Eli Knust who opened the frame with a double to left, on a ground out to the right side of the field.

Camden Dice finished with two of Huntington’s six hits. The Foresters (33-14) are back in action on Monday to face top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.
