In a conference clash with their neighbors to the south, the Huntington volleyball team went head-to-head with Taylor for two sets before the guests ran away with the final two sets in a 3-1 Trojan-favored brawl, 27-25, 27-29, 25-11, 25-15.
It was evident from the get go that HU was ready to tangle with TU. Herber and crew brought an energy to Platt Arena that saw them open up a 16-11 lead in the first set. While Taylor eventually slipped past the Foresters for the first W, the hosts came raging back to take the second set for the 1-1 draw.
Unfortunately, the wheels fell off after that for HU as the next two sets were all Taylor. With this loss, Huntington drops to 6-5 overall, 1-1 in league play while TU improves to 12-1 overall, 2-0 in CL action.
“Tonight I challenged the team that we can look back on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, and know it was the moment we drew a line in the sand and decided we would never lose a match due to a lack of intensity or confidence,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “I have all the confidence in the world in this team, and it’s my job as their coach to help my players see themselves through the lens of Christ.”
Abby Robinson led the Foresters on both sides of the ball by posting 11 kills and 16 digs. Lindsay Ingenito also put down 11 kills while Anna Lewis and Kortney Grimm added seven and six respectively.
Morgan Robrock organized the Foresters offensively by handing out 34 assists. She also tracked down 15 digs. Grimm and Hannah Maier were also active defensively to combine for 24 digs. In addition to tracking down 11 digs, Maier dished out six dimes and tallied three aces.
“We are going to execute defensively and mentally in practice tomorrow so that we can respond effectively when we play Mount Vernon and Saint Francis this weekend,” noted Herber.
HU heads to #RV Mount Vernon on Friday before heading back to Platt Arena on Saturday to host Saint Francis.
