VOLLEYBALL
The long trip to #25 Mount Vernon didn’t seem to faze the HU volleyball team initially as the guests came out firing on all cylinders to grind out the win in the first set. A close second set favored the Cougars after which the hosts took control of the final two sets to cruise to the win, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.
“I loved how we came out strong to start the match,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We have struggled to come out strong in a third set, and our defensive quickness tapered off compared to the first two sets we played.”
Morgan Robrock dished out 39 assists. The 6-0 setter had three main targets with Lindsay Ingenito topping Herber’s crew offensively with 13 kills. Kortney Grimm chipped in 11 while Abby Robinson also racked up double digit kills with ten.
Robinson and Grimm also did their fair share defensively by trolling the backline for 21 and 13 digs respectively. Mikailah Thompson finished with 14 digs.
Both teams finished with 52 kills, but the difference came by way of attacking errors by Huntington that eventually proved their demise.
“What we need to execute fundamentally and mentally tomorrow against Saint Francis does not take hours of reps in a gym,” said Herber. “We can simply decide to be a better team tomorrow.”
With this loss, the Foresters even up their record at 6-6 overall, 1-3 in league play. HU is back on their home turf tomorrow to host Saint Francis at 3:00 p.m.
