The Huntington volleyball team wrapped up the first round of league play with a 3-1 win, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15, 25-21, over Goshen Friday night at Gunden Gymnasium.

It was a satisfying team win for Herber and crew. “We walked away learning that we are a team that plays our best volleyball when we are intense, enthusiastic and fired up.”

Tya Bynum and Lindsay Ingenito tagged teamed in the middle to lead the charge offensively for HU. Bynum had a monster night by posting a career-best and match-high 15 kills in addition to logging 2.5 blocks. Ingenito was also a force to be reckoned with at the net having tallied 11 kills on 17 swings for a .588 hitting percentage. She also finished with 2.5 blocks.

“Our middles were unstoppable tonight,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “They were confident, aggressive and made themselves an option at all times.”

Hannah Maier was back in the line-up to track down a game-best 21 digs. Kortney Grimm had an all- around solid performance by claiming eight kills, ten digs and 1.5 blocks. Morgan Robrock dished out 40 assists and enjoyed a career-best six aces.

As a team, Huntington finished with 48 kills to Goshen’s 39 and won the battle at the net defensively as well with eight blocks to the hosts’ six.

With tonight’s W, the Foresters stretch their win streak over the Maple Leafs to six and improve to 8-10 overall, 3-6 in league play. Tomorrow starts the second round of conference play when HU road trips to Spring Arbor for a 3:00 p.m. match up with the Cougars.
