Feminine Hygiene Sewing Project
This Thursday we have a great opportunity available to help support young women in Liberia and Haiti. We are sewing feminine hygiene products (pads) to help female students attend/stay in school. We are sewing at a local “Sewing Barn” where we have several sewing machines — we just need volunteers. You do not need to know how to sew to come! We can teach you the simple stiches, and we also have cutting, pinning, ironing, and packaging to do as well.
We are sewing this Thursday evening, September 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. If you would like to join us, please contact Nancy Richison at nrichison@huntington.edu for more information. It is a great evening of socializing, sewing, and doing something that can help others.
In many schools, young girls begin to fall behind their peers as they stay home for a week each month because they do not have adequate feminine supplies to enable them to attend school. This often leads to them eventually dropping out and falling short of completing their education. The products have been very impactful in changing this situation in Liberia, and we hope it is just as beneficial as we begin to send the products to Haiti as well.
Hope to see you there!
