VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington volleyball team won a hard fought match Friday night against the Redhawks of IU Northwest, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-20, at Platt Arena. The match between the two teams was the first in over a decade with the win upping the Foresters’ record to 13-19 on the year.

“While tonight wasn’t our best play, I’m grateful we walked away with the win, and that’s worth celebrating,” said Coach Kelsey Herber.

The Foresters were led by Lindsey Ingenito who tallied a match-high 17 kills. Tya Bynum and Abby Robinson added 14 and 12 kills respectively. Morgan Robrock organized the offense by dishing out 48 assists

Defensively, Hannah Maier had a great night with 15 digs while Kortney Grimm and Abby Robinson added 14 each.

HU used an impressive fourth set to secure the victory. After trailing 19-16 late in the set, HU went on a 9-1 run for a comeback that sent the Redhawks (8-13) home. Overall, the hosts nearly doubled up IUNW in kills by posting 59 to the visitors’ 31.

“We responded after runs of not playing our highest level of volleyball, and our middles were effective offensively,” said Herber. “In order for them to score, it’s a team effort. Our first contact has to be in system, the set needs to connect, and our middles have to find the open shot.

“I’m proud of our team for executing that portion of our game plan.”

Huntington is back in action Wednesday when they travel to Bethel University to take on the Pilots.
