African Religions and Christianity

Hello, Everyone:

I’m writing this note to encourage students with interest in missions, comparative religions, philosophical issues regarding the role of context in understanding religions (traditional African religions vs. Christianity), how traditional religions view deities vs. the Divine in Christianity, etc., to consider taking the J-Term course African Traditional Religions and Christianity.

This course raises many theological and philosophical issues from the perspective of an influential African theologian, the late Kwame Bediako, whose book is the textbook for this course. As an African myself with an interest in African traditional religions and with a specialization in philosophy of religion, I look forward to working with those students who take this course.

Finally, for students with interest in Non-Western Studies, this is an ideal course for your interest, and this course will be taught by a non-Western professor who is the current director for The Center for Non-Western Studies at HU.
