WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

A sluggish start haunted the Forester women’s basketball team Wednesday night at Cougar Gym. IU Kokomo ripped off the first 12 points of the game on the way to handing their guests a 62-47 loss.

While HU played within three points of the Cougars after that, the early deficit proved too daunting with Anya Friend to blame. The 5-9 freshman scored nine of her team’s first 12 points to serve as a one-person wrecking ball. Tia Chambers came to life after that to ensure the Cougars stayed on top.

The 5-11 post was nearly unstoppable, scoring 17 points in the opening twenty minutes to send her team into the locker room with a 41-27 advantage. The pair combined for all but nine of IUK’s first half points. It was more of the same in the second frame as they accounted for all but eight of their team’s points after intermission to hold the Foresters at bay.

It wasn’t for lack of effort on the part of Huntington. Unfortunately, every time they were on the cusp of a run, an untimely turnover or missed shot left them wanting as they were never able to cut it to single digits.

Emily Seboe finished with 13 points as HU’s only double digit scorer. She also corralled a game-best nine rebounds. Amanda Lovejoy nailed three three-pointers for nine points while Konnor Gambrell tossed in seven.

Chambers topped all scorers with 25 points while Friend posted 20.

Next up for HU (2-10) is a trip to Lawrence Tech on December 18.
