INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
After opening its season at Purdue Fort Wayne last month, the Huntington indoor track and field program headed back to PFW Saturday for the Mastodon Invitational at Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Noah Bise had a big day for HU. His leap of 7.20 meters in long jump not only earned him a first place finish, but more importantly punched his ticket to indoor nationals as an automatic qualifier. He also won triple jump with a mark of 13.82 meters. Both are PRs for the senior and breaks his own school record in each event.
Dylan Felger turned in an incredible performance as well. His winning time of 22.33 in the 200 meters set a new school record and hit the provisional mark for nationals. Reece Gibson also claimed a B standard in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:44.86, good for second place at the meet.
Other top five finishes on the men’s side included Matthew Hyter in the mile (4th, 4:26.35), Kent Yoder in the mile (5th, 4:26.36), Josiah Sovine in the 400 meters (3rd, 52.02) and Cameron Worsham in the 60 meter hurdles (2nd, 8.64), Kyler Bourne in pole vault (2nd, 4.15 meters) and Robert Nabulere in long jump (5th, 6.15 meters).
On the women’s side, Shelby Christman won the mile in 5:11.50 to earn another spot on the big stage by hitting the B standard. The freshman sensation automatically qualified for the 5,000 meters in the season opener last month.
Sydney Lambert took second in the mile in 5:19.29. The Foresters were also well represented in the 800 meters with Abigail Mays taking second (2:22.92), Christman finishing third (2:25.83) and Lambert slipping in at fourth (2:31.30).
Aanyah Wright had a breakout meet by not only posting a second place finish in weight throw but her mark of 14.76 meters also proved the second longest throw in program history. Other top five finishes included Sydni Ausberry in the 60 meters (4th, 8.12) and Siera Weathers in the 400 meters (5th, 1:15.17)
The Foresters are back in action on February 4-5 for the IWU Midwest Classic.
