The Huntington bowling program was in Indianapolis this weekend to compete in the 53rd annual Hoosier Classic that included 143 teams. It is largest collegiate bowling tournament in the country features six team games and 15 Baker games.

The weekend was bigger than bowling. Nick Hoagland and his team at H2M Management who run the tournament used the weekend as a fundraising event for Ryan with Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Foresters were able to help Ryan roll out the first ball and then present him with a gift basket to take to Disney World next month.

On the men’s side, HU finished 47th out of 78 teams with a pin total of 8033 over the two-day event. Austin Schultz led Huntington with a score of 1158 for a 193 per-game average.

The HU women took 32nd out of 65 teams. The ladies rolled a 7742 for the weekend. Amber Elliott led the way with 1153 pins for a 192.2 per-game average.

“The shot both days was really tough which what is expected for the Hoosier Classic,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “The teams did a good job of communicating and working together with adjustments. While the finishes were not as high as what we wanted to see, we were able to get a good feel for what we need to work on going into postseason tournament play.”

Next up for Shockey and crew is the Crossroads League Championships on March 5.
