SOFTBALL
Just like the first meeting, the Forester softball team split with Spring Arbor (12-19, 6-14) Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Softball Field. The split sent HU home with an overall record of 8-21 which includes a 6-12 record in CL action.
Game one favored the Cougars 4-0 as HU’s offense was sparce. Ehler’s crew managed just three hits and never touched home, the fifth time this year they’ve been shutout. Mackenzie Walker, Audrey Barnes and Jenessa Hasty each pounded out a single.
Maddie Turner was tagged with the loss. The rookie hurler surrendered 12 hits and four runs while striking out five in 5.2 innings of work.
The nightcap belong to Huntington 4-3. Karlee Franklin got the job done in the circle. She went the distance to give up seven hits, three runs and three walks while striking out one.
Adelyn Harsh came up big at the plate. In Huntington’s first at-bat, Courtney Mason and Barnes each claimed a single followed by Abigail Reed getting hit by a pitch to set up Harsh’s first RBI-smack and a 1-0 HU advantage.
Two frames later, Harsh launched one over the left field fence with a runner on to up the lead to three.
The Cougars closed the gap to one at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but HU quickly countered when Kiera Stacy, who led off with a single, advanced to second on Harsh’s blooper into center and then eventually made her way home on an error. It was the game-winning run as SAU pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh to reduce Huntington’s gap to just one.
The Foresters finished with ten hits to SAU’s seven. Harsh finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI while Stacy posted two hits.
HU (8-21, 6-12) hits the road again on Friday to face Grace.
