Despite playing at Forest Glen, Friday’s games were considered a home doubleheader for Goshen. The Huntington baseball team won game one’s slugfest 15-12 while the Maple Leafs outlasted Frame’s crew 6-4 in the nightcap.
The Foresters had to come from behind to win the opener. The lead swapped back and forth multiple times before HU finally had the last say by erupting for five runs in the top of the ninth to turn their 12-10 deficit into a three-run victory.
Frame’s big inning saw Goshen commit an error amidst four hits with the most notable base pokes a Langston Ginder RBI-triple and Satchell Wilson RBI-double.
Huntington posted 13 hits with multiple Foresters coming up big at the plate. Ginder led the pack with three hits and two RBI while scoring four times and drawing two walks. Matt Wolff also worked a pair of walks in addition to hammering out two hits and driving in three runs. Owen Young and Nick Davit each finished with two hits and an RBI. Four other Foresters logged at least one RBI.
Graham Kollen was the fourth and final Forester to take to the mound. He tossed the final two frames to pick up the win by striking out three and giving up just one hit.
The nightcap saw Goshen return the favor. Not only did the Maple Leafs have to come from behind, they also did so by rounding the bases five times in an inning. Their five-run frame came in the fourth and proved the last offense of the day.
Jaden Deel drove in half of HU’s runs with a sac fly in the second and an RBI-single in the fourth. In between, Wolff found a perfect spot in center field for a run-scoring two-bagger in the third and then Young drilled a shot down the left field line for his second homerun of the year several batters prior to Deel’s RBI-base poke in the fourth.
It made for a 4-1 HU lead after their at-bat in the fourth but it didn’t last the inning thanks to Goshen’s big sticks in the bottom of the frame.
Tyler Papenbrock took the loss for Frame’s crew by giving up five hits, six runs and five walks while striking out five in 3.2 innings on the bump.
Huntington (20-18, 18-12) travels to Goshen tomorrow to finish their regular season series with the Maple Leafs.
