Taking a break from league action and playing at Forest Glen for the last time this season, the Huntington baseball team ran away with a 10-1 win over Manchester Tuesday afternoon in a nine-inning contest.
Freshman Grant Simmons had an impressive outing on the mound to notch his first collegiate win. In four innings of work, he struck out three without issuing a walk and scattered two hits.
The Foresters had plenty of firepower at the plate. They scored all ten runs in the first six frames which included plating a pair in their first at-bat for an early lead that they were able to continue building on.
Langston Ginder and Satchell Wilson combined to drive in HU’s first four runs. Wilson would go on to knock in another two with a single through the left side in the fourth. Ian McCutcheon had a similar shot through the left side in the fourth to also drive in a pair of runs.
Matt Wolff was the other Forester to get in on the action with a sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI-single in the sixth.
When all was said and done, Wilson finished 3-for-3 at the plate in addition to drawing a walk and tallying four RBI. McCutcheon, Ginder and Wolff each posted a hit and two RBI.
With just a four-game series at top-seeded Mount Vernon this weekend to close out the regular season, Frame and crew are sitting in a tie with IWU for third in the league standings, four games behind MVNU. Taylor is currently second, two games out of first, with Grace yet to play while IWU is slated to play Marian this weekend.
