The 7th-seeded Huntington softball team’s season came to an end Thursday morning in a Crossroads League Tournament elimination game against 4th-seeded Taylor that ended 11-2 in favor of the Trojans in five.
“Although it wasn’t the way we wanted to end the year, I’m super proud of the girls for competing the way they have the last two days,” said Coach Erin (Rethlake) Ehler. “This season was full of growth, hard lessons and good competition.
“We have almost our entire team returning with an exciting freshman class coming in, and I cannot wait to get back on the field with this squad next year.”
TU came out great gangbusters in their first at-bat to race in front 5-0. The Foresters took it in stride by getting two back in the second. Kiera Stacy drilled a shot to right-center for an RBI-double after which her pinch runner Kinsey Westerhouse came around to score on a dropped fly.
Unfortunately Huntington’s offense dried up after that while the Trojans’ hot bats continued by scoring twice in the third and adding four more to their total in the fourth to put into place the run-rule by the fifth.
Stacy, Adelyn Harsh and Abigail Reed each finished with a hit for HU.
Harsh got the initial nod on the mound to be charged with the loss having given up two hits, three runs and a walk.
Ehler and crew wrap up the season with an overall record of 16-34 which includes three wins over ranked opponents.
