The 4th-seeded Forester baseball team continued their hunt for another Crossroads League tournament championship by cruising past 8th-seeded Saint Francis, 15-8, Monday afternoon at IWU’s Wildcat Stadium.
HU has accumulated eight league tournament titles with the most recent in 2017.
Frame’s crew racked up all 15 of their runs through the first six frames to bolt out to a 15-0 advantage. While it seemed a comfortable lead, that’s not how it felt in the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars touched home eight times to more than cut their deficit in half.
It proved the last offense of the contest as neither team scored after that to make for an uneventful finish.
Camden Dice’s performance in the circle was dazzling through the first five frames having scattered three hits while striking out eight, which included closing out three frames with a strikeout, before the dreadful sixth. When all was said and done, he earned the win after fanning nine while giving up eight hits and six runs, four of which were earned, in 5.1 innings of work. Noah Arbuckle tossed the final 3.2 innings to pick up the save.
Offensively, the Foresters tapped into every available resource. In addition to logging ten hits, they also took advantage of seven walks and six hit batters while stealing nine bases to score in double-digits for the 14th time this season.
After a quiet first inning, the Foresters went off for six runs in the second and then scored at least one run in the next four frames on the way to cruising past Saint Francis.
Between Langston Ginder, Jarret Gray and Max Mosier, the threesome accounted for ten of HU’s 13 RBI. Ginder collected two hits and five RBI. Gray added three hits and just as many RBI while Moser finished with two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
HU (26-21) is back in action tomorrow at noon to take on 2nd-seeded Taylor at Winterholter Field in Upland.
