The IU Northwest volleyball team is off to a hot start with their latest victim the Foresters of Huntington Tuesday evening at the Savannah Center Gymnasium. The RedHawks disposed of HU in four (25-13, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) to improve to 5-2 on the season while their visitors drop to 1-6.

It’s just the fifth time these two programs have met up with tonight’s outcome the first to favor IUNW.

IU Northwest put up a wall defensively to limit what Huntington was able to do offensively. The hosts finished with 12.5 blocks to HU’s six and as such also had an offensive efficiency that proved superior.

Huntington was paced by Haley Kruse’s 11 kills. Kortney Grimm chipped in ten kills while Maisyn Robrock finished with seven. Morgan Robrock directed traffic by handing out 29 assists. Olivia Krahn picked up 12 digs while Layla Meyer tallied four aces.

“Tonight we had a post-match conversation regarding the necessity of displaying confidence, vocal energy and grit each time we stop on the floor – whether that’s for a match, practice or extra reps,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “The entire team is on the same page and understands that this is the last time we are going to talk about it. All that’s left is to put it into action.

“Olivia played a great match for us with both her passing and defense. I’m proud of the way she stepped up and kept many plays alive.”

The Foresters’ next matchup will be against UNOH on Friday at 4:00 p.m. as part of the Racer Tournament.
