WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Forester women’s soccer team kept pace with St. Francis (Ill.) but came up a goal short to suffer a 2-1 loss to their visitors Saturday afternoon at King Stadium.
It was an evenly matched game with the Saints enjoying a 12-10 advantage in shots taken. Corner kicks also favored USF 5-3.
Just before halftime, Allison Schaar juked an HU defender and rocketed a shot far post to send her team into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Saints road their advantage for over 25 minutes until Kalaina Stephens, off a perfect feed from Hannah Johnson, lofted a shot just over the outstretched hands of the USF keeper to even things up 1-1 in the 72nd minute. It was Stephens’ second goal in as many outings.
St. Francis’ response was immediate as they took advantage of a corner kick to score less than two minutes later to reclaim a lead that stuck. Ireland Aerni finished with six saves in the losing effort.
“St. Francis is a good side and we matched up well with them,” said Coach David Lewis. “I was pleased with the grit and effort we displayed. We’ll rest, let some injuries heal and prepare for Wednesday’s match.”
The Foresters (1-3) are home again on Wednesday to host Manchester at 4:30 p.m.
