WOMEN’S GOLF

The Huntington women’s golf team was back in action over the weekend to compete in the very competitive Players Club Invitational where they finished 9th out of 14 team with a three-round score of 980 (334-314-332).

Danielle Tinsley paced the Foresters with a 239 (82-75-82) to finish 38th out of the field of 82 golfers. Abby Sheehan had a solid weekend of golf with a 244 (84-75-85) to claim 43rd. They both fired a program-low 75 in their second round.

Grace Dill was next for Davis’ crew with a 248 (83-81-84) good for 49th place. Kira Moore was one stroke back at 249 (85-83-81) while Lauren Slottke’s scores got better with each round on her way to posting a 278 (97-95-86).

“This was the best field we will face all year with eight teams nationally ranked,” noted Coach Patrick Davis. “We had our ups and downs, but I am very proud of how hard we fought during the two-day 54-hole tournament.

“This tournament was a great growing experience for the team, it showed us that we can play with the best teams nationally. We just have some strokes here and there that we need to clean up as the season progresses. I’m excited to see how we grow this season. ”

Indiana Wesleyan topped the leaderboard with an 884 followed by Taylor (889), Cumberland (Tenn.) (896), Lindsey Wilson (902), Cumberlands (Ky.) (910), Dalton State (913), UNOH (930), Marian (935), HU (980) IU Kokomo (991), Lawrence Tech (1019), IU East (1021), Olivet Nazarene (1021) and Mount Vernon (1044).

Next up for HU is Battle at Blackthorn on September 23-24.
