VOLLEYBALL
The HU volleyball team was #3 Marian’s latest victim Friday night at MU Arena. The Knights took care of business against their visitors in three sets (25-17 25-12, 25-15) to remain perfect on the year at 11-0 which includes a 3-0 record in league action.
Eight of MU’s 11 wins have been of the straight set variety confirming they are deserving of their high ranking.
The Foresters took early leads in the first and third sets but unfortunately couldn’t withstand Marian’s push back. The Knight made it look easy as their only documented mistakes came by way of just 12 hitting errors, four service errors, four reception errors and a blocking blunder for the entire match.
Huntington struggled to get much going with Leah Carter, Haley Kruse and De’Janea Johnson logging four kills each to make for a scarce offensive outing. Morgan Robrock dished out 17 assists. Defensively, Layla Meyer collected 14 digs.
“Tonight we did not compete every single point, and that not acceptable,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “Volleyball is a team sport that has no room for individualism. I think some of us needed fire lit under us tonight while some of needed confidence injected into our veins.
“Either way, our players know that they have tonight to encounter a lightbulb moment establishing she needs to do to be the best player and teammate she can be tomorrow. When the sun comes up, time is up, and we must embrace the new opportunity that comes with the day.
Herber goes on to say. “Thank goodness Christ’s mercies are new every morning. Somebody has to pay for these past two matches that we’ve struggled. Why not the Cougars?”
The Foresters (5-9, 1-2) are on the road again tomorrow to face Spring Arbor at 7:00 pm.
