MEN’S GOLF
The Forester men’s golf team fired an eight-over-par 292 at the Ken Venturi Invitational hosted by Trine University to finish second out of 13 teams. It’s the program’s highest finish since the spring of 2017 when HU finished second at their own invitational.
The one-day event, held at Zollner Golf Course, saw Mitchell Wilson shoot par (71) to finish 3rd out of 82 competitors. Peyton Richmond was one stroke back at 72 to finish 5th. Quin Edwards carded a 74 for 8th place while Colby Martin (13th) and Trevor Simon (20th) turned in a 75 and 76 respectively.
HU was also represented at the invite with a second crew who tied for sixth with a 312. Scores included Carter Roseboom (75, 13th), Hank Pulver (78, 29th), Brenner Lampton (79, 33rd), Evan Walsh (80, 36th) and Kaleb Ketchum (80, 36th).
Ohio Wesleyan topped the leaderboard with a 288 followed by HU (292), Trine (294), Trine B (297), Ohio Northern (311), HU B (312), Ohio Northern B (312), Trine C (313), Ohio Northern D (316), Trine D (319), Siena Heights (328), Ohio Northern C (332) and Anderson (336).
“I’m really proud of the way we fought today,” said Coach Connor Dwyer. “This is one of the best finishes we have had in a while. The guys were thrilled to have a chance to win a tournament and our confidence is growing.
“Mitch and Peyton played very solid rounds today that really helped the number. It was really impressive that we were able to shoot these scores without seeing the course at all. I also want to give a shoutout to Hank and Carter for both breaking 80 and shooting career-low rounds. Both of them have been working hard this fall and it’s good to see their progress.”
Next up for the Foresters is Battle at Blackthorn on September 23-24.
