WOMEN’S SOCCER

Playing under the lights Saturday night at the Cougars Soccer Complex, the Huntington women’s soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss against one of the top teams in the nation in #2 Spring Arbor.

It was business as usual for the Cougars who lived up to the hype on both ends of the pitch. The hosts have yet to give up a goal this season. SAU also came into the night averaging four goals per match. Tonight’s final stats were par for the course.

Spring Arbor kept Ireland Aerni busy. The HU keeper finished with 13 saves. Shots were 35-0 in favor of SAU.

“Spring Arbor is leaded with experienced and talented players. They proved their national ranking,” said Coach David Lewis. “I was pleased with the effort our team demonstrated. Alex Bryant organized the backs well and Ellie Cirrincione and Katie Hooley stood out defensively.

“Ireland Aerni did a great job in net to keep things interesting. Unfortunately, Janae Good had to leave the game early due to injury. We’ll use this match to learn and grow.”

The match-up was the league opener for both teams as Huntington moves to 2-7-1 on the year, 0-1 in CL play, while Spring Arbor improves to 6-0-2 overall which includes a 1-0 record in league action.
