WOMEN’S GOLF
The HU women’s golf team topped the leader board of the MVNU Cougar Fall Classic at Chapel Hill Golf Course with a two-round score of 645 to be deemed the tournament champions. Huntington was a picture of consistency, posting a 322 in round one and following that up with a second-round score of 323.
It’s just the second time in program history the Foresters have captured a team title with the first dating back to the Taylor-hosted Ackerman-Allen Shootout in April of 2018.
“I’m proud of our team, they all had moments on the course that helped secure the win for us,” said Coach Patrick Davis. “Consistency is the key for us moving into the next tournament. We have to find ways to limit unneeded strokes.”
Danielle Tinsley led the charge with her 2nd place finish by firing a 153 (76-77). Not only was she rewarded for her play with a spot on the All-Tournament Team, but she also set a new program record for the lowest 36-hole tournament score. Kira Moore posted a 164 (79-85) to claim 6th out of the field of 24 golfers.
Abby Sheehan (86-80) and Grace Dill (84-82) each turned in a 166 to share 8th place while Lauren Slottke was one stroke back at 167 (83-84) for 10th. Lexy Turpchinoff (87-80) and Akira Seals (85-88) turned in a 167 and 173 respectively playing as individuals.
“Danielle did great and stayed consistent to help lead our team and get her first All-Tournament medal. Lexy, our senior, posted her lowest round of 80 in the second round,” said Davis. “From top to bottom, we didn’t have a score in the 90s, and that is really exciting for me. That shows we are all really close in score and we are all competing.”
Huntington ‘s 645 was followed by Mount Vernon (659), Ohio Dominican B (660) and Shawnee State (774). Davis and crew wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with the Chariot Run Challenge on October 24-25.
