VOLLEYBALL

With Wednesday’s 3-1 win (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18) over Spring Arbor, the Huntington volleyball team wrapped up the regular season sweep over the Cougars, having enjoyed a three-set victory the first time these two squads squared off on September 17.

It’s HU’s fifth straight win as they improve to 13-14 overall, 6-7 in league action. It’s SAU’s fifth straight loss as they drop to 11-18 overall, 1-13 in CL play.

Morgan Robrock, this week’s NAIA Setter of the Week, handed out 46 assists with four primary targets. Kortney Grimm proved her favorite with 14 kills. De’Janea Johnson and Haley Kruse each posted 12 kills while Tya Bynum added 11. The foursome combined for 49 of HU’s 55 kills.

In addition to orchestrating the offense, Robrock also posted nine digs, three kills, three aces and two blocks. Layla Meyer took charge of the backline by collecting a match-best 25 digs. Olivia Krahn and Grimm registered 14 and 12 digs respectively.

In Huntington’s first and fourth set wins, they never trailed but their second set W had a much different feel. After spotting the Cougars a 9-0 lead, the Foresters methodically fought back to take their first lead of the set at 19-18 before eventually notching the three-point win.

“While tonight wasn’t the type of win we walk away feeling good about, we will always celebrate a victory,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We need to train playing at our highest level consistently.

“We have two hours in the gym before we play two more matches. We need to use that time intentionally so we can bring the most intensity yet to Taylor.”

The Foresters road trip to #12 Taylor on Friday before hosting Goshen on Saturday.
