Email Security Update

At the end of the calendar year, Microsoft will be disabling Basic Authentication. You might be wondering what that is and how it affects you. Basic Authentication is an old way of authenticating devices to Microsoft accounts. In most cases, that would be your mail application and Huntington University email account. Devices still using this old authentication method will lose their connection to your email account at the end of the year. If your account was set up on your device before November 2021, you might be using Basic Authentication. Apple iPhone and Android users using the Mail app have a high probability of using the old authentication method.

So how can you prevent your device from disconnecting from your Huntington University email account before the end of the year? You can download the Outlook application on your device and set up your account. Most Mail applications support the new Modern Authentication. If you lose connection to your email account, remove the account from your email application and set it up again. We highly recommend downloading the Outlook app or setting up your Mail app again before the end of the year to prevent any disconnection. Don’t hesitate to contact the HU Help Desk by email at HelpDesk@huntington.edu or by phone at (260) 359-HELP (4357) if you need assistance.
