INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The USTFCCCA has announced that Huntington’s Destiny Copeland has been named the M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week at the NAIA level for her standout performance over the weekend at Indiana Tech’s Strive for Greatness Invitational.

In her debut in Forester green, the graduate student transfer hit two A standards and broke two school records. Her winning mark of 12.43 meters in triple jump is currently the best in the NAIA in addition to being a new PR, HU record and Turnstone Center facility record.

Copeland’s second A standard was in long jump where she finished third at the meet with her leap of 5.66 meters which is the second farthest jump in Huntington history. She wrapped up the day by setting the Forester record in the 200 meters in 25.85 which earned her second at the meet.

The Chesapeake (Va.) native came to HU as a five-time NAIA Champion.

This is the first M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week honor for Huntington in indoor track & field. Next up for Copeland and crew is the Sean Brady Alumni Open on January 14.
