Auditions for Spring Musical
Open auditions for HUTC’s production of Meet Me in St. Louis will be held on Thursday, January 19 between 3:00-6:00 p.m., with callbacks immediately following auditions. Sign up for an audition slot by clicking here.
For these auditions, there will be both a musical audition and a dance call. For the musical audition, please prepare 16-32 bars (no more than a minute) of a musical theatre song from a show written before 1965 (but NOT from Meet Me in St. Louis). An accompanist will be present; please bring sheet music in the key in which you will be singing it. Don’t know how to choose a song? Watch this helpful tutorial! If you’ve never had to bring sheet music with you, or you’ve never done anything more than bring loose papers to hand to the accompanist, please watch this tutorial on how to prepare your sheet music for a professional audition. Your accompanist will thank you — and you will save yourself the embarrassment of having them start/end your music in the wrong place.
Dance auditions will also be on Thursday, January 19. You do not need to sign up for a time slot to participate in dance auditions, but you do need to learn the dance combination in this video and come prepared to perform it in small groups. A video of your audition will be sent to the choreographer. The video will be available at this link no later than Monday, January 16.
The show runs March 30-April 1, and tech week is March 25-29. If you have evening classes, you can be excused for tech week and performances. Rehearsals will be Monday-Thursday from 7:00-10:00 p.m. (you will only need to be present when we are rehearsing your scenes), but this may flex slightly depending on the schedules of students who are cast. Professor Ryan Long will be directing, and Professor Melanie Carter will be music directing.
Nervous about auditioning? Never done a musical theatre audition before? Here’s a video with some great beginner tips. We love having new people audition for the Huntington University Theatre Company, so please don’t be afraid to ask questions or jump right in! Email Ryan Long with any questions. Hope to see you at auditions!
