MEN’S BASKETBALL
Playing Spring Arbor (8-12, 2-8) for the second time in a week, the #RV HU men’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season sweep over SAU with a 73-61 win at the McDonald Athletic Center Wednesday night. The previous Wednesday, Alford and crew hosted the Cougars and sent them home with a 91-62 loss.
The Foresters have notched five straight wins over Spring Arbor. On this given night, they spotted their hosts the first three of the contest but then went off for 11 straight points to take over the lead. HU’s first double-digit advantage came with eight minutes left in the period at 27-17. By the 3:38 mark, double digits separated the two squads permanently.
It was a 44-28 difference by halftime. Huntington continued to distance themselves by building a 28-point cushion of 65-37 with just under nine minutes remaining. Sitting comfortably on a 71-51 lead with four minutes left, HU stayed in control but got outscored 10-2 to settle for the 12-point win.
On 13 occasions this season HU has enjoyed a double-digit victory.
Topping all scorers was Lane Sparks with 23 points. Zach Goodline finished with 19 as the only other Forester to reach double figures. Landen Jordan and Ben Humrichous each grabbed eight boards to share game-high rebounding honors.
Austin Braun led the Cougars with 15 points while Kevyn Robertson and Gabe Newhof each tallied ten.
HU (14-6, 6-4) is on the road again on Saturday to face Grace at 3:00 p.m.
