BOWLING

The Huntington bowling program wrapped up the conference portion of their regular season at MVP Lanes in Fort Wayne over the weekend. It was the fourth and final tourney of the year with the women still on the prowl for a conference title and the men looking to turn in another solid performance.

The Forester women weren’t satisfied with their third place finish. They turned in a total score of 6526 which included four team games and 16 Baker games. Amber Elliott led the women with another All-Tournament Team finish. She knocked over 809 pins through four games (202.25/game) to finish fifth individually.

“We controlled our own fate for the conference championship, and we owned the tiebreaker if it came down to a tie in points,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “It was a bad day to have a bad day. We lacked focus and shot making was not good early in the day.”

The HU men had a strong day to finish in second place with a total score of 7033. Jacob Perry topped the field of 60 bowlers to be deemed the tourney champion. He finished with a pin total of 933 for a 233.3 per game average.

“Today was by far the best bowling for the men all season,” said Shockey. “The guys have done a great job of coming together and bowling as a team. We are improving different areas every practice and the guys are starting to put it together.

“They were focused and overall shot making was probably the best we’ve seen all season. Jacob has been the model of consistency for us and to see him start to carry a few more shots per game was just the reward for his hard work this season.”

As a team, Spring Arbor was crowned the CL champions won the women’s side while Marian was tabbed the CL champions on the men’s side. Both squads receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

The Foresters now turn their attention to the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic slated for February 18-19.
