WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The 7th-ranked Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan lived up to their national ranking Wednesday night at Luckey Arena by handing the Huntington women’s basketball team a 104-72 loss. It was opening round of the Crossroads League tournament so the loss brings to a close HU’s season.

Emily Seboe drained a corner three off the opening tip to give the 8th-seeded Foresters their only lead of the contest. The top-seeded Wildcats (26-3, 17-1) scored the game’s next eight points to bolt in front and never really look back.

Lilli Frasure scored seven of her team’s first nine points. She was IWU’s motor all night to which Maggard and crew had no answer as evidenced by her 30 points. When she wasn’t scoring, she was either tracking down rebounds or handing out dimes. She finished with ten boards and eight assists to just miss out on a triple double.

IWU set the tone and pace early to take a 56-30 lead into intermission The guests pieced together a solid third quarter by outscoring the Wildcats 28-23 but just like the first two quarters, the hosts spent the fourth building on their advantage to make for the lopsided final.

Seboe sank four three-pointers on her way to a team-best 16 points. She also led the team in rebounds with five. Konnor Gambrell added 14 points while Gabi Melby scored all ten of her points in the second half. She and Jenessa Hasty dished out three assists apiece. Hasty also swiped three steals and tossed in four points off the bench.

As a team, the Foresters cashed in on half of their field goal attempts by going 26-for-52 which included knocking down nine threes at a clip of 45.0 percent.

In addition to Frasure’s 30 points, Wesleyan got 15 points from Jade Nutley, 14 from Jordan Reid, 12 from Maddie Lawrence and 11 from Sadie Knee.

HU’s final record stands at 10-19 which includes a 5-13 CL record.
