BOWLING

The Huntington bowling program concluded its season at the USBC Sectionals over the weekend. One of the longest tournaments of the season along with one of the toughest oil patterns the Foresters have faced, the format included 64 Baker games over the course of the two-day competition.

Sectionals is the first step of post-season for bowling programs at all levels and divisions (NAIA, NCAA, NJCAA and club team) with the top four teams from the four different sectional sites moving on to the Intercollegiate Team Championship Tournament in Las Vegas.

The HU women finished 12th out of 17 teams in Addison with a score 11,563 (180.7/game average). Shockey’s crew held tough throughout the weekend but struggled to score consistently.

“Every round we bowled we lost some ground to the leaders that we could not find a way to make-up,” noted Coach Mike Shockey.

The Forester men, who have come on strong as of late, continued their ways having posted the highest sectional finish in program history by taking 7th out of 20 schools. The previous high for Huntington was a  7th place finish in 2021 at the Dayton sectional. The team knocked down 12,750 pins for a 199.2/game average.

“The guys had a couple of bad blocks otherwise they would have contention for earning a berth to the team championship tournament in Las Vegas,” said Shockey. “I am really proud of the guys this season!

“We had our fair share of issues early in the season and the guys came together to bowl as a team. The team has a bright future with another strong freshman class coming in along with the lessons learned this season.”

Shockey would also like to honor his seniors. “We have several players graduation this season and we want to thank each and every one of them for everything they have done for the Huntington University bowling family!  Thank You to Dylan Crowley, Sydney Fahrer, Savannah Albers, Paige New, Bella Canfield, Haley Tucker, Kayli Iorio, and Amber Elliott.”
