The Forester volleyball team took a break from league play to face Manchester Saturday morning in Platt Arena where they won in four, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.

Over the last decade, these two squads have exchanged making the short drive to play each other six times with Huntington monopolizing all six wins.

Freshman Lauren Ross stepped in to run the offense and her performance was impressive. The rookie setter handed out 45 dimes in her collegiate debut in addition to posting 14 digs and three kills.

Ross’ targets included Leah Carter and Haley Kruse with 11 kills each while Kortney Grimm and Maisyn Robrock finished with ten apiece. Trevyn Terry accounted for Huntington’s other nine kills. As a team, Herber’s crew put down 54 to Manchester’s 45.

At the net defensively, Carter and Grimm posted three and two blocks respectively. Grimm also tracked down 11 digs while Olivia Krahn trolled the backline for 18 digs.

“After today’s match, we addressed how we need to grow moving forward and reminded ourselves of our vision for the season,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We have a big week next week to prepare for, and we are going to work on our blocking, coverage and executing on a free ball along with intentional communication before, during and after every play.

“I was proud of Lauren for stepping up and running our offense today! She has a bright future with Forester volleyball.”

Huntington, 10-2 with today’s win, heads to #8 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. matchup with the Wildcats.
