The Forester volleyball team hit the road Wednesday afternoon to face one of the nation’s best in #5 Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats, who have only given up one set so far this season, lived up to their ranking by disposing of their guests in three, 25-14, 25-16, 25-20, inside Luckey Arena.

The loss drops HU to 10-3 on the year, 1-1 in league play, while IWU remains perfect at 10-0 which includes a 2-0 record in the Crossroads League.

While the first set proved Wesleyan’s largest margin of victory, it didn’t start out that way. The beginning of the match featured four lead changes and four ties before the Wildcats eventually put enough space between Herber and crew to cruise to the win. They wouldn’t trail the rest of the night.

Haley Kruse finished with a team-high ten kills. Kortney Grimm was HU’s most efficient hitter. The junior outside tallied seven kills on 14 swings with just one error to finish with a .429 kill percentage.

Morgan Robrock assisted 25 of Huntington’s 28 kills. Layla Meyer posted 12 digs to lead her team defensively.

“IWU has a fantastic team,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “However, I thought it was our own play that hurt us tonight. Morgan moved the ball around well, and our attackers were aggressive.

“We need to be more consistent in our first ball contact in both serve receive and defense. We are going to work on that tomorrow to prepare for a big weekend of conference play!”

Next up for the Foresters is a pair of home matches over the weekend. HU will face Marian on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and turn around to play Spring Arbor on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
