MEN’S GOLF

The Huntington men’s golf team shot two sub-300 rounds at the Delaware Shootout hosted by IU East to finish fifth out of 11 teams with a 29-over-par 589 (297-292) at the Delaware Country Club on Friday.

“I’m really pleased with our performance this week,” said Coach Connor Dwyer. “Although we didn’t get the win, we did post two scores under 300 and competed with the top teams in our conference. We showed some fatigue but after 126 holes of golf this week that is to be expected but they never gave up and battled hard.”

Peyton Richmond continued his tear, posting a one-over-par 141 (70-71) to finish 4th out of 76 golfers and earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team for the second time in as many outings. Mitchell Wilson (76-73) and Colby Martin (75-74) tied for 18th with 149.

Carter Roseboom was next for Dwyer’s crew with a 152 (78-74) for 31st place. Luke VanDeventer fired a 153 (76-77) as did Kaleb Ketchum (71-82) for a share of 38th place. Other scores for HU included Brenner Lampton with a 158 (72-86) and Trey Spring with a 168 (83-85).

“I’m really proud of Brenner for tying his career low in round one and Kaleb shattering his career low,” said Dwyer. “Kaleb also got his first hole in one on hole 6 which was really cool!

“Peyton is proving to be a superstar and I can’t wait to watch his success this year. Shooting three-over- par in five rounds this week is amazing play and I’m glad his hard work is starting to show. The team is looking forward to some rest this week and then ready to take on a big tournament this weekend.”

IU East took the tournament title with a 561 followed by Taylor (574), Grace (577), Saint Francis (581), HU (589), IU Kokomo (595), Franklin (600), IU East B (632), Anderson (636) and Rio Grande (643).

Next up is the Battle at Blackthorn on September 29-30 in South Bend.
