The Forester volleyball team had plenty to celebrate Friday night after their 3-1 win over #RV Taylor, 26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, at Platt Arena.

“I am incredibly proud of my team tonight,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “I challenged them to let their mentality dictate their play rather than their play dictating their mentality. They did just that. Everyone played a great match.”

Not only did the hosts knock off a ranked opponent, the win also snapped a four-game skid and even more importantly proved Coach Herber’s first career victory over the Trojans since taking over the reins in 2019. Prior to HU’s dub tonight, Taylor had racked up nine straight wins over the Foresters.

Huntington came out hungry and their aggressiveness was evident on both sides of the net. As a team, HU pounded out 53 kills at a rate of .239 percent. It’s the eighth time this year the Foresters have posted a kill percentage greater than .200.

Morgan Robrock posted 45 assists to go along with four kills and nine digs. The 5-11 setter orchestrated an offense that kept the visitors guessing with her favorite target Haley Kruse who put down a match-high 15 kills.

Leah Carter also finished in double figures with ten kills on 15 swings for an efficient night in the middle. Kortney Grimm and Maisyn Robrock tallied eight kills apiece while Trevyn Terry terminated seven balls to make for a well-balanced attack.

Defensively, Huntington put up a wall at the net to finish with a season-high 12 blocks to TU’s six. A quartet of Foresters in Carter, Grimm, Maisyn Robrock and Terry, each claimed 2.5 blocks. Layla Meyer and Kruse organized the backline by tracking down 13 and ten digs respectively.

“Our middles were both an offensive weapon and blocking force at the net,” said Herber. “Morgan ran a beautiful offense, and our attackers utilized a ‘score’ mentality. Our first ball contact improved tremendously, and I’m excited for the direction we are headed as a team.”

With this win, HU improves to 11-6 on the year which includes a 2-4 league record. Herber and crew are back at it tomorrow to host Goshen at 3:00 p.m.
