MEN’S SOCCER
The Forester men’s soccer team played to a 2-2 deadlock with Saint Francis Saturday afternoon at Bishop John M. D’Arcy Stadium in a neighborly conference battle.
Since 2015, the Foresters have gone 7-1-3 against the Cougars.
Higor Barbieri scored both of Huntington’s goals. His first sizzled back netting on a perfectly placed throw-in from Nathan Lemmon about 30 seconds after the hosts had gone up 1-0. Both goals came in the 37th minute just before intermission.
The Cougars then reclaimed the lead with 21 minutes left in the contest. Lawson and crew weren’t about to go down without a fight and with less than three minutes to go, they got their reward. Barbieri was taken down in the box setting up his second goal by way of a penalty kick.
Dan Pellegrine got the win between the poles. The junior keeper finished with six saves.
“This wasn’t one of our better performances and yet we were able to salvage a draw,” said Coach Russ Lawson. “We will take the point and move on to Spring Arbor. Higor having our two goals tonight was a bright spot for sure.”
With this tie, Huntington moves to 4-4-4 overall which includes a 1-1-1 record in Crossroads League action. HU is back on the road Wednesday to face off against Spring Arbor at 4:00 p.m.
