WOMEN’S GOLF

For the second straight tournament, junior Kira Moore topped the field of 49 golfers with a 146 (74-72) to be deemed the individual medalist at Battle of Blackthorn hosted by Bethel at Blackthorn Golf Course.

The Mansfield (Ohio) native’s 146 proves a new program record for lowest 36-hole score which breaks her own record established at HU’s last tourney.

Abby Sheehan also replicated her finish from Huntington’s last outing by claiming sixth with a 153 (75-78). Danielle Tinsley fired a 166 (79-87). Grace Dill (83-86) and Lauren Slottke (84-85) each turned in a 169.

As a team, Huntington posted a two-round score of 632 (311-321), just 12 strokes out of first, to finish fourth out of eight teams. Taylor won the tournament with a 620 followed by Bethel (621), Grace (631), Olivet Nazarene (715), Cornerstone (715), Mount Vernon (716) and Saint Xavier (721).

Head Coach Patrick Davis is excited about his team’s early success this fall. “This is the best start HU women’s golf has ever had, our team scoring average has dropped 20 strokes and we’ve already broken multiple team and individual records.

“I am proud of Abby placing 6th individually in the last two tournaments. Kira Moore’s hard work this year is paying off – winning two of the first three tournaments is an amazing start. We are very talented from top to bottom, and I can’t wait to compete again in a few days with these ladies.”

HU is back in action for the Saints Classic October 9-10.
