MEN’S GOLF

The Huntington men’s golf program kicked off the spring portion of their schedule this month with a pair of out-of-state tournaments. A few weeks ago, the Foresters competed in the Big Cats Collegiate at Ocean Ridge Plantation in North Carolina. Most recently, HU spent a few days in Kentucky at the Garn Championship.

The Foresters played 36 holes at the one-day event in North Carolina. After shooting a 31-over-par 319 as a team, HU came back with a 25-over-par 313 in the second round to finish seventh out of eight teams with a total score of 628.

Peyton Richmond had a terrific outing to lead Huntington with a two-over-par 146 (76-70) for third place out of 51 golfers. Colby Martin shot 78 both days to finish with a 156 for 13th place. Luke VanDeventer came in next for Dwyer’s crew with a 159 (79-80) for the 23rd spot. Kaleb Ketchum (86-85) and Carter Roseboom (90-92) rounded out HU’s scores with a 171 (41st) and 182 (47th) respectively.

Playing at Keene Trace Golf Club this week, HU placed 17th out of 21 teams by posting a three-round score of 998 (321-344-333) at the Spring Arbor-hosted Garn Championship. Richmond again paced the Foresters with a 29-over-par 245 (81-81-83) to place 46th among a field of 116 golfers. With the finish of basketball, Mitchell Wilson joined the team again and got better as the tourney went on to post a 248 (86-84-78) for 55th place. Ketchum fired a 254 (81-87-86) for 70th place while Martin finished 77th with a 256 (78-92-86).

Huntington is back in action on April 1 for the Rock Hollow Invitational.
