WOMEN’S GOLF

The Huntington women’s golf team topped the leaderboard at the Battle at the Woods Invitational to bring home gold. The Foresters fired a two-round score of 665 (334-331), ten strokes better than the second place finisher, to claim the third win in program history. As a team, Huntington racked up 33 pars over the weekend at Hulman Links Golf Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Leading the way was senior Danielle Tinsley who earned medalist honors by carding a sixteen-over-par 160 (79-81) to finish first out of 41 golfers. Kira Moore was one stroke back with a 161 (83-78) for second place. Abby Sheehan also had an excellent outing to enjoy her first top five finish with a 170 (84-86).

Grace Dill came in next for Davis’ crew with a 174 (88-86) good for eighth place. Riley Kitson turned in 191 (95-96) to finish 21st. Lauren Slottke (101-94–195) and Akira Seals-Perkins (100-94–196) shot within a stroke of each other to finish 22nd and 25th respectively. Madalyn Shaw rounded out Huntington’s scores with a 208 (108-100) for 32nd place.

“We had a rough start to the spring season,” said Coach Patrick Davis. “We struggled with consistency and confidence early on so this win was a big confidence boost for us.

“I’m happy for Danielle getting her first ever win at Huntington. Kira continues her consistent play for us, finishing on another all-tournament team.”

Saint Mary of the Woods Navy came in second after HU with a 675 followed by Oakland City (717), Rend Lake (719), Saint Mary of the Woods White (736) and Franklin (812).

Next up for Huntington is the Ackerman-Allen Invitational on April 15.
