SOFTBALL

The Forester softball team was on the wrong end of a pair of shutouts, 3-0, 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Softball Field. It was sweet revenge for Mount Vernon as the first time around, back on March 12, Huntington nabbed two wins over the Cougars.

HU struggled to get anything going offensively in both contests. The opener saw Ehler’s crew put up six hits but were never able to string enough together to find home to make for a frustrating day. Only on three occasions did they have runners in scoring position.

Kasey Hickle and Jess Duvall each had two base pokes to account for all but two of their team’s hits.

Maddie Turner tossed the first 5.1 innings to be tagged with the loss. She gave up three hits, two runs and two walks.

Unfortunately things didn’t get any better in the nightcap as the Cougars ended up run-ruling their guests in five. Nigella Reck was the only Forester to log a hit while MVNU piled up 11 base knocks which included three doubles and a homerun.

Emma Payton took the loss having given up nine hits, six runs and two walks while striking out two in 3.2 innings of work.

It’s a busy week for the Foresters (14-22, 6-16) as they’re back home on Friday to host Grace and then Saint Francis on Saturday.
