The HU men’s soccer team blanked Lourdes 4-0 in their season opener Saturday afternoon at King Stadium. The Foresters are three-for-three against the Gray Wolves since 2021 with today’s result the second straight shutout.
Huntington needed less than ten minutes to take charge of the day when Abraham Abdoul Kadri one-touched a picture-perfect cross from Sam Dolobaipu at the 9:06 mark for the hosts’ first goal of the year. The rest of the half came and went without HU able to capitalize on several other quality looks much to the dismay of interim head coach Nick Potter and his crew.
But the Foresters came out of intermission with a sense of urgency and got their payoff in the 65th minute with an easy tap-in by Joao Ratinho from Kadri’s shot that ricocheted off the post. Less than two minutes later, Dolobaipu took advantage of a foul in the box by making good on a PK to blow the game wide open at 3-0.
With just over two minutes remaining, John Amador put the finishing touches on the win by blistering a shot back netting from deep for his first goal in Forester green.
Huntington’s backline was stingy all afternoon, limiting Lourdes (0-1) to just four shots with Dan Pellegrine earning the shutout in goal with three saves. At the other end of the pitch, the hosts fired off 11 shots, nine on target, with four different Foresters scoring to make for a balanced attack.
The Foresters (1-0) return to King Stadium on Wednesday to host Cumberlands (Ky.) at 6:00 p.m.
