WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The first half of Crossroads league play came to a close with the Foresters sweeping the Spring Arbor Cougars (25-19, 25-23, 25-20).

HU came out of the gates firing on all cylinders on their way to a 9-0 lead in the opening set. Maisyn Robrock would end the first set with a kill to give HU the first set win 25-19. In the second set, Spring Arbor (9-9, 3-6) lead 13-12 but HU took control of the match late and Trevyn Terry ended it with a kill to seal set two 25-23. The Foresters never trailed in the third set on their way to a 25-20 third set win to complete the sweep.

Olivia Krahn was a defensive force to anchor the Forester backline. The junior defensive specialist covered all corners of the court on her way to 22 digs.  Leyla Meyer also contributed 22 digs as the Foresters defense left very few holes for the Cougars to attack. Leah Carter and Trevyn Terry combined for 10 blocks to thwart the Cougars attack.

Olivia Krahn played phenomenal defense for us,” said Coach Kelsey Herber.

On the offensive side, Haley Kruse had 10 kills while Maisyn Robrock and Kortney Grimm each tallied nine kills. Lauren Ross dished out 31 assists to go with 16 digs.

Herber noted, “I am so proud of our team defense and composed and confident mentality tonight. This puts us in great position going into the second round of conference play.”

The Foresters (12-8, 4-5) will take a break from Crossroads league play and take on Indiana Tech on Friday night at the Turnstone Center in Fort Wayne. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Crossroads league play will resume on October 9 when the Foresters host Saint Francis in Platt Arena.
